Highway Widening at York Creek

The British Columbia Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure proposes to conduct highway widening and upgrades along an approximately 4 km section of Highway 7 between 266th and 287th Street in Maple Ridge, BC, which requires works in the vicinity of York Creek. The works include removal of riparian vegetation, extension of two existing culverts conveying York Creek under Highway 7 and infilling of the existing York Creek inlet pool immediately upstream of the culverts. To improve fish passage through the culverts, the proponent is proposing to install steel baffles in the culverts and two concrete weirs downstream. Fish habitat offsetting measures are proposed, including construction of a new culvert inlet pool, construction of boulder weirs in York Creek downstream of the project to remediate an existing obstacle to fish passage, and restoration of riparian habitat in the vicinity of the project and at an offsite location in Mission, BC. The overall project is expected to be constructed over 2 – 3 years, with instream works scheduled for August 1 – September 15 of 2024 and 2025.


Latest update

February 14, 2024 – Fisheries and Oceans Canada issued its Notice of Determination and determined that the project is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.
