Aquatic Restoration – Babel Creek, Consolation Lakes, Corral Creek, Fish Creek and Mosquito Creek

Parks Canada proposes to remove non-native fish species from Consolations Lakes and Upper Babel Creek, Corral Creek, Fish Creek and Mosquito Creek in Banff National Park and to reintroduce Westslope cutthroat trout and Bull trout where they were historically present. This proposal considers fish translocation from source populations and long-term monitoring to ensure self-sustaining populations are established in the recipient waterbodies. This aquatics restoration program will occur over a period of ten years (2026 to 2036).

Latest update

June 10 2026 – Parks Canada intends to make a determination regarding whether the carrying out of the project is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects. To help inform this determination, Parks Canada is inviting public comments until July 10 2026 respecting that determination.
