Airfield Pavement Repairs - 12 Wing Shearwater

The Department of National Defence (DND) is proposing a project. The Department of National Defence (DND) is proposing to carry out airfield repair activities at 12 Wing Shearwater. The repair activities will include removal and disposal of existing asphalt and concrete pavements at select locations on Ramp 1, compaction of existing and new gravels for base and subbase as required, site grading and installation of new asphalt pavement to provide positive drainage to existing catch basins, and repainting traffic markings to match existing. Surplus soils are not anticipated. The work is proposed to take place Summer/Fall 2026.

May 5, 2026 - The Department of National Defence intends to make a determination regarding whether the carrying out of the project is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects. To help inform this determination, the Department of National Defence is inviting public comments until May 14, 2026, respecting that determination.
