98 Manitoba Street Environmental Remediation  – Public Comments Invited

June 10, 2026 – The authority must determine whether phase one (Building Demolition) of the proposed 98 Manitoba Street Environmental Remediation, located at 98 Manitoba Street, Bracebridge, is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.

To help inform this determination, the authority is inviting comments from the public respecting that determination. All comments received will be considered public and may be posted online.

Comments submitted during the previous public comment period (April 9, 2026-May 9, 2026) do not need to be resubmitted and will be considered in the evaluation of environmental effects for the current project.

The Proposed Project

The planned work at 98 Manitoba Street in Bracebridge, Ontario involves the demolition of the existing federal building and remediation of impacted soil and groundwater beneath the structure at depth. . In-situ thermally assisted multi-phase vacuum extraction will be used to remediate the property to meet the remedial objectives. Following remediation, the site will be restored with compacted backfill. The project will be completed in 3 phases. The first phase (building demolition) is scheduled to begin in summer 2026. The second phase (remediation) is scheduled to begin in spring/summer 2027. The third phase (long-term monitoring) is scheduled to begin in spring 2029.

This assessment includes the first phase of the project only; subsequent phases of this project will be assessed separately.
